Online Security for Poker Players

Most of the poker players I know do almost nothing to protect their money from being stolen. In order to play well, you can't be thinking about the fact that you are throwing around hundreds or even thousands of dollars, and most players don't think of their bankroll as "real money" - It is just a tool, and your winnings aren't real before you have withdrawn them to your bank account.

This mindset is essential if you want to become a good player, but unfortunately it tends to make people forget that it is in fact real money that can be stolen. The poker rooms don't have as good security as banks, and it can be incredibly difficult to recover the money from a poker room account if there are stolen. To make matters worse, it is also difficult to get the police to investigate theft of money from a poker room account (I have first hand knowledge of that).

Why You Don't Want Your Money Stolen!

Since it is really, REALLY hard to recover your money if they get stolen, and suing the thief is going to be even harder, you have to make sure that your computer and poker accounts are secure.

How to Not Have Your Money Stolen

I have got a couple of tips on how to make your money really secure. Some of it may sound a bit technical, but it is really easy, and will actually make your life easier in the long run.

If you "haven't done much" about security, I recommend that you read Nat Arem's guide to online security right now!

I also have a couple of security related articles on PokerDatamining.net, but they aren't as beginner friendly as Nat's guide, and are more useful if you have a good grasp of how to secure yourself, and are looking for ways to beef up the security even more.
